Specifying Coatings

When specifying optical coatings, please include the following information (as applicable):

The reflectance and/or transmittance in the areas of concern. Wavelength regions that are unspecified are assumed to be            unrestricted (i.e., any performance is acceptable).  Please indicate what tolerances are acceptable for the reflectance and/or transmittance specifications requested.
The angle of incidence or range of angles of incidence over which the reflectance/transmittance requirements apply.
The polarization of the incoming radiation if the angle of incidence is not normal to the surface to be coated.
The substrate material (e.g., synthetic fused silica, Zerodur®).
The number and size of the substrates to be coated.
The maximum temperature that the substrates can tolerate if the temperature limit is under 400°C.
The maximum tooling mark and the preferred locations of the tooling marks on the substrates to be coated.  Please note that the tooling marks will be small regions on the optical surface(s) that will not get coated.  Full clear aperture is available on many substrate shapes and sizes, but requires special tooling.
Any areas on the substrates that must be masked (i.e., remain uncoated).
